"They received the Word with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.  Therefore many believed."--Acts 17:11

Does this group believe that Christians are to be nonviolent in all situations, even in matters of self defense?

Hi bmusser,

I suppose the short answer is "yes."  We believe that we should turn the other cheek.

Thanks.  I believe Jesus taught nonviolence, but most organized religious groups believe God understands killing in self-defense.  I've been listening to many of the online messages from various Christadelphian groups and have never heard a direct comment about this issue.  Take Care

I do no know who among "Christadelphian groups" you've been discussing this point with. Under the New Covenant:

"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" (Rom. 12:14-21).

Another short answer: Based upon Rom. 12:14-21, et al., Christadelphians are to be nonviolent in all situations, even in matters of self-defense.

What do you believe the Scriptures teach on this subject,  bmusser?

Have a good evening.

Well, I haven't really been discussing this issue with any Christadelphians.  I have just been finding exhortations online at various websites.  There are many of them out there. I have found much about conscientious objection, but nothing about nonviolence in other areas, such as self defense.  The two comments from this forum and an email from another fellow have all indicated that Christadelphians take a nonviolent approach in all matters.  I believe that to be the way the Lord Jesus instructed his followers.
